The Meta Conversions API (CAPI) allows you to send Lead Stage updates for leads received from your Meta Lead Ads Integration directly to Meta. Meta uses this data to optimise your ad targeting, decrease cost per result, and accurately measure campaign outcomes:
- Optimised Ad Targeting: Your conversion data will be used to fuel Meta’s AI to locate and convert new customers more accurately
- Cost Efficiency: Reduce your cost per result by allocating your ad budget more effectively toward high-potential customers based on your conversion data
- Campaign Outcome Measurement: Gain a clearer understanding of which channels yield the best results, allowing you to focus on strategies that work
Meta Conversions API Setup Process
To integrate Meta’s Conversions API with Privyr and optimise your lead ads, you must complete the steps below:
- Connect to Facebook Lead Ads
- Send all Lead Stage Events to Meta
- Configure your Sales Funnel on Meta Ads Manager
- Share your Dataset Permissions with your Ad Account
- Update Meta Campaigns to Maximise Number of Conversion Leads
Step 1. Connect to Facebook Lead Ads (Enables CAPI)
You must be connected to Facebook Lead Ads to enable CAPI. You can check if CAPI is enabled by going to Account > Settings > Meta Conversions API. Here, you’ll see one of three statuses:

- Not Enabled
- Your Facebook Lead Ads and CAPI connection is not set up yet.
- Click Enable Meta Conversion and follow the prompts to connect to Facebook Lead Ads, or renew your connection. This will also enable CAPI automatically.
- Refer to the guide on Connecting to Facebook Lead Ads for more detailed instructions
- Enabled – No Lead Stages Sent
- You are connected to CAPI, but no Lead Stages have been sent to Meta yet.
- Proceed to Send all Lead Stage Events to Meta
- Enabled – Sending Lead Stages
- Your connection is active and Lead Stages are being sent to Meta.
- You can move on to Configure your Sales Funnel on Meta Ads Manager
- If you notice any missing Lead Stages, return to Send all Lead Stage Events to Meta before continuing
Step 2. Send all Lead Stage Events to Meta
Meta needs to know all of your possible lead stages before you can configure your sales funnel. You’ll need to send each Lead Stage from Privyr to Meta once during setup.
Once you’ve set up your Meta Lead Ads integration, you can send lead stages to Meta directly from your client’s details on Privyr’s website and the mobile app:
- Make sure you have the ‘Lead Stage’ default dropdown field
- New users: This field is created by default
- Users who joined before May 2025: Go to Account > Settings > Custom Client Fields, view the Enable Default Fields banner and click ‘Create Fields‘
- You may customise the field name and dropdown options by going to Account > Settings > Custom Client Fields. If the field name has been changed, you can identify it by looking for the dropdown field with the [Default] label.
- View any lead that was received from Facebook
- Go to one of your existing clients that came through your Facebook Lead Ads integration, or send a test lead to Privyr from Meta Ads Manager
- If the lead is eligible, you will see a blue prompt at the bottom of the screen telling you to Optimize your Meta Campaigns
- Note: The lead must come from a connected Facebook Page. The default Test Lead sent during Facebook Lead Ads connection is not eligible for CAPI.
- Send all Lead Stages to Meta
- Click the Lead Stage field (or its renamed equivalent)
- Select each dropdown option one by one until you’ve cycled through them all
- Repeat this process whenever you add a new Lead Stage or rename an existing one
- Verify that Privyr is sending conversion events to Meta
- When Lead Stages are successfully sent, you’ll see Meta Campaign Optimisation: Sending conversion events under Client Info
- Tap on Meta Campaign Optimisation > View More Details, or visit the Meta Conversions API settings page to confirm that at least one conversion event has been sent for each Lead Stage

After sending your stages to Meta, please continue with Configuring your Sales Funnel on Meta Ads Manager.
Step 3. Configuring your Sales Funnel on Meta Ads Manager
This step informs Meta about your sales funnel and which lead stage to optimise on. You must have admin access in your Meta Business Manager suite to complete this section.
- Go to the Events Manager overview
- Navigate to Data Sources, then select the dataset called “Page Name Event Data”
- If you have successfully completed all of the previous tasks, you should see a prompt to Configure sales funnel. Click Continue.
- When configuring your sales funnel, complete the following actions at each step:
- Configure sales funnel stages
- Positive stages: Stages that are positive in the lead’s conversion path (e.g. interested, meeting-booked, proposal, negotiating, closed-won)
- Other stages: All remaining stages (e.g. uncontactable, closed-lost)
- Click Next
- Optimisation target
- Select the earliest Lead Stage you want to optimise for, and include any subsequent positive stages in your funnel
- Click Finish
- Configure sales funnel stages

After configuring your funnel, please continue with Sharing Dataset Permissions with your Ad Account.
Step 4. Sharing Dataset Permissions with your Ad Account
Go to your Events Manager to share the dataset permissions with your Ad Account.
- Go to Data Sources
- Select dataset titled ‘Page Name Event Data’
- Navigate to Settings
- Under Sharing > Ad accounts, click on ‘Share with an ad account‘
- This will lead you to Datasets & Pixels. Re-select the correct dataset from the sidebar or dropdown if needed.
- Navigate to Connected Assets
- Click on Connect Assets, then select Other Business Assets, check the ad accounts that you want to grant access to, and click ‘Add’

After sharing your dataset, please continue with Updating your Meta Campaigns target.
Step 5. Update Meta Campaigns to Maximise Number of Conversion Leads
Once all the previous steps are complete, go to your Meta Business Suite > Ads Manager > Optimisation & Delivery and set the performance target to Maximise Number of Conversion Leads
Updating your Lead Stage field in Privyr
Once your setup is complete, every time you update the Lead Stage field on leads received from your Facebook Lead Ads, your Lead Stage will be sent to Meta to optimise your campaigns.
Follow these steps to update your lead stage field:
- View any lead from Facebook
- Click the Lead Stage field (or its renamed equivalent)
- Update the Lead Stage
You may customise the Lead Stage field name and dropdown options by going to Account > Settings > Custom Client Fields.
